Scholarship Horse" |
A horse will send a student to college.
We will explain: Amateur dressage rider Sue Springsteen of Chester
County has won award after award with her horse, Cidor. Springsteen,
46, has long been asked to give riding lessons on the 21-year-old
gelding, but she has resisted because she wants to keep her amateur
status.
By day, she's a financial adviser with Morgan Stanley and a stock
commentator on KYW-AM (1060), so she knows loopholes and found
one big enough to guide a horse through. She also figured out
how to do good.
She's on the board of Chester County Futures, which mentors and
helps low-income students. She set up a CCF scholarship in Cidor's
name. Students don't pay her; they write checks to the Cidor
Fund.
The CCF will grant the first Cidor scholarship in May. "Education
breaks the poverty cycle," says Springsteen, who, since
you want to know, has been told she's a distant relative of Bruce. |
